I couldn't agree more. I loved every minute of DEAR WORLD, a show I didn't know at all before beyond two of the songs. I remarked to friends that due to the pandemic, THE TAP DANCE KID, and THE LIFE, it had been so long and I'd forgotten the feeling of discovering a forgotten show at Encores! and just having a marvellous time watching the best of the best give it their all. It was good to have Encores!, to quote another Herman score, back where it belongs and I was so thrilled to be there.
I'm hopeful for the rest of the season, but I know I'm setting myself up for disappointment, if only because OLIVER! and THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA are hardly forgotten scores that deserve the brief spotlight that this series shines. |
