| Saw it twice during the short run. He like everyone else was wonderful. Not sure how to even compare between over 25 years ago and now or how to compare what he sang in that to roles like in The Prom, Something Rotten, Dear World, etc. The material is just too different. And even now when he's playing the "schticky" characters I think he's also very effective playing the more "real" moments in the material. Songs was also the first time I saw Brooks so had no reason to compare it to anything but definitely don't remember anything that felt like what you're likely referring to. Very glad to have seen the original especially with the inability for Billy Porter to do the album (although Ty Taylor is phenomenal in his own right!) |
