What an interesting thing to say about the preparation to sing this particular role, which I don't think is anyone's idea of an even moderately difficult sing. I mean, does anyone think Ray Walston, Victor Garber, Jerry Lewis, or Sean Hayes are great singers?
Cranston must really doubt even his ability to simply carry a tune.
This role has always struck me as one that requires star presence and personality more than a trained singing voice. I didn't see him, but I wonder if that was why Garber didn't make more of a splash in the role...I'm guessing he approached it more as an actor than as a star. |
