| Just watched it again on TCM and thought she was great. There's tons of trivia on line but one thing that really impressed me was noticing this time how Russell's vocals weren't totally removed but rather seamlessly edited with Kirk's and how well Kirk's vocals blended with hers, especially in Rose's Turn. An interesting 'what if' (IMdB) is Wood and her husband at the time Robert Wagner lobbying Jack Warner to cast Judy Garland. I looked up the Times review and Bosley Crowther really slammed Russell's performance. |
