| I don’t understand the analogy you’re making. If Liev Schreiber or Shia LeBoeuf were cast in the Sidney Poitier role in A Raisin in the Sun, it’s obvious that they’re not black in a role that was intended for a black actor. Sexuality is clearly very different … you can’t tell whether a man is gay or straight just by looking at him. So, sure, straight actors can play gay and gay actors can play straight, and I don’t think “authenticity” is necessarily sacrificed in either case. If the actor is good, there’s nothing missing. |
