| I previously thought of Cabaret as somewhat homophobic, drawing an equivalence between the gay MC and Nazism. But in his memoirs, Hal Prince says he tried to create a transition for this character, starting out as a cheap, sleazy entertainer and only later becoming an embodiment of Nazism. Prince says subsequent versions, including the Fosse film, have chosen to skip over that transition. | |
