"Those shows aren't going to be able to sell a single ticket on the back of winning anything."
While true, this only matters to those who stand to gain by ticket sales for something else. That is a pretty small subset within Tony voters. And with these star-driven vehicles, there is not really much chance that the road voters are going to be of any help. Moreover, this falls in that category of shows that is being produced on Broadway because some people think it should be.
