Saw an incredible production of Once last night at Writers Theatre in Glencoe. Stunning, environmental staging gave the show a fluidity and warmth that made it a most enjoyable night at the theatre. Matt Mueller and Dana Saleh Omar gave outstanding performances as Guy and Girl. There were many moments of both humor and sadness which gave the story just the right amount of balance. The ensemble complemented the proceedings with their appropriate dose of exuberance.
For some reason, most likely due to the striking direction, many of the musical numbers seemed more like book songs and/or commentary rather than diegetic ones (or maybe it was just me).
Anyway, the show is running through April 16th. Highly recommended if you live in the Chicago area. |
