The headline said FOX News as a whole “panicked” when ONE person made a stupid joke is all. I personally think the proposed changes lyric changes are ridiculous. In “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” Ursula is basically the devil trying to manipulate a vulnerable Ariel. Why on earth should the lyrics be more sensitive? Ursula is a bad guy. It should be “offensive.” Then, in “Kiss the Girl,”. Ariel CAN’T SPEAK so Sebastian is begging Eric to kiss Ariel so that Ursula doesn’t have her soul forever. He’s not in favor of romantic assault. He’s trying to save her life. Howard Ashman knew exactly what he was doing and none of it is offensive IMHO.

Even without a voice, Ariel can and should give consent before she is kissed.

Of course, Fox has a complicated relationship with Disney. When evangelicals freaked at the “lesbian overtones” in Frozen, Fox was fine condemning the material as is.

Ursula is a bad guy.

That's an intriguing way to put it. I would tend to think that Ursula's pronouns are not he/him/his.

What I can definitely say is that, at least in Massachusetts these days, calling Ursula a bad "lady" might get you fired from your job.

Personally I'd give up my right to not be called a "Lady" if it meant I still had legal access to over the counter abortion pills but apparently in 2023 America it's either one or the other.

I heard the animated Ursula was inspired by the legendary drag queen Divine. Wait until Fox discovers that!

The "Lady" situation seems blown way out of proportion to me. I understand the issue, but I think rescinding a job offer over is an over reaction. "Lady" is never a wise word choice unless you know the group you're addressing. However, it is still a very frequently used word (perhaps ironically but some) and I don't think is rises to the level of an egregious mistake.
