Saw this show earlier in the week. I Promised Myself to Live Faster is actually a play created by Pig Iron Theatre from Louisville, KY in 2015. Their website describes it as "an intergalactic extravaganza featuring closeted extraterrestrials, high-stakes pursuits, and nuns from outer space." David Cerda's group puts its own spin on it and the laughs really come fast and furiously. Tyler Anthony Smith gives a riotous performance as Tim (our hero) who has to get back the Holy Gay Flame from an evil emperor who is trying to destroy homosexuality -- or something like that.
Actually, the show sort of struck me as what would happen if Juicy from Fat Ham magically took over the role of Usher in A Strange Loop. There's also a lot of Star Wars thrown in, plus some Shakespeare, and even a bit of Little Orphan Annie. A good time is guaranteed if you're a fan of Hell in a Handbag. It's at the Chopin Theatre through April 30th. |
