Saw "The Wife of Willesden" on Sunday from the onstage seating at a table and it was a lot of bawdy fun. In large parts it feels like a monologue with additional characters (there is a cast of 10). I wasn't familiar with the original Chaucer story, but have read that Smith's is very faithful to Chaucer's plotting. Fascinating to see how Zadie Smith melded all her literary influences from Chaucer, North London and Jamaica into the work. The director and cast brought it all to vibrant life. If you can get a seat at a table, it is highly recommended. The intimacy added a lot to my enjoyment.
