“Unlike me, it’s getting a face lift”?
Is she delusional?

I wouldn't be surprised if the tour version lands on broadway

But i would assume that it will be a few years before that happens. Cats in drag is probably a joke. Bad Cindy closing soon is a little premature, i would expect it to stay open through Tonys only because Really Useful Group (ALW's company) has money to burn but under $700K a week its losing money. It will probably get a lot of Tony nominations but win none.

I don't read her column, is it always this choppy?

Cats in drag is probably a joke.

It's real!

And I actually think the concept could help the show connect with folks it sometimes alienates. Around the time of the workshop, I posted thoughts on the other board, which I'll link here.

I heard from someone who knows, in January, that the cheaper tour version of PHANTOM, with mini orchestra, will come to Broadway after a suitable pause. In a Shubert Hosue of course

I dont understand the point of bringing it back so soon. It's closing on Broadway because people are tired of it and they're losing money. In January, people are still going to be tired of it and there is nothing new or interesting enough about the touring production that would entice people back.

Didn't a cheaper Phantom replace the original in London?

Les Mis return

Les Mis closed May 2003. The first revival was Nov 2006 (just over 3 years after original--i think under 3 years can be considered a hiatus and not a revival for Tony purposes) that lasted a year--probably considered a flop. The second revival was Mar 2014 (11 years after original closed) that lasted 2.5 years (over 1000 performances). What is a suitable pause for Phantom? it would need to be several years.

I was thinking, since they're closing in the spring, that they'd wait until early summer and announce that, due to overwhelming demand, they'd be bringing the show back in the fall in an exciting new iterarion that fans both old and new will want to see and experience the magic again. And then this will be the scaled down version that was touring fairly recently.

I don't think they care about the awards potential as much as they care about mining more cash from this war horse.

Almost Famous, Bad Cindy and KPOP could easily not make the cut.

It also opened this season. Will the Tony nominators forget about it as you apparently did?

Yes, they will. Will Swenson will likely be the only nominee from the show.
