| There are surprises though. Remember when Idina Menzel beat out Donna Murphy, Tonya Pinkins, and Kristin Chenoweth? | |

| I am not especially good generally at predicting the Tonys, but I remember that win being one that I expected to happen. I do remember it being regarded as a surprise. I would certainly be surprised if Ashford won this year. There has been some carping about her performance even in favorable reviews of the production. New York has seen a bunch of excellent performances in the role, and hardly anyone seems to feel that Ashford ranks with the best, even if she may get more laughs than anyone else. But, as you say, there are often surprises. |

| I have now seen all the performances mentioned as likely candidates. I saw Clark at the Atlantic and Bareilles at CC, and although Clark might win, my vote would go for Micaela. And "Parade" for Best Revival and director. | |
