That's not necessarily true, nor is it usually true. Very rarely do screenplays, at least as written by the screenwriter (rather than the director) include most of what you mention besides when, for example, the POV is crucial to the concept of the storytelling and why the scene/dialogue is the way it is or how it fits into the narrative... and of course the locations are all there for each scene or beat.
But yes, the screenplay, like the book to a stage musical, is a lot more than dialogue. Even if it is sung-through, where and to whom each lyric is sung is something that may be changed and invented in the screenplay, as might the order of songs, and the way the musical works in a film context. |
