I love the entire score of New Girl in Town. I think Bob Merrill did an excellent job of musicalizing Anna (a former prostitute) and Marthy (a boozy older lady, Chris' mistress). "Flings", "Sunshine Girl", "It's Good to Be Alive", "Look at 'Er", "Did You Close Your Eyes when We Kissed?", "Ven I Valse", and "Chess and Checkers" are all beautiful book songs.
Merrill's second Broadway score was for Take Me Along and even better IMO.
BTW, when I was a little kid, my mom bought me Patti Page's recording of "How Much Is That Doggie in the Window?" on a 45 record. |
