I’ve always thought the point was to delight the audience with an entertaining song. The 50s and 60s (and this show premiered in 1960) had these enjoyable numbers as a staple. Who’s Got the Pain?, Steam Heat. I’ll Do Anything, while charming is, displays the 2 worlds that Oliver straddles. Upper class society which he was born into ( although he doesn’t yet know that) with the rough and tumble life he is leading.and how the underclass views society.
