| I think also Miss Adelaide is only in one big scene in Act 1, which granted includes "A Bushel and a Peck" and her immortal Lament, but Vivian Blaine was probably the biggest name in the cast -- at 20th Century Fox Betty Grable was supreme at Blaine's time, but Blaine and June Haver were the other backup/alternative leading ladies. As such, it was probably thought a good idea to give her another number to give her character more to do, and a modified strip fit the bill. Funny in a way, since Robert Alda who was playing Sky had been known for playing in burlesque among such kind of numbers, as well as playing George Gershwin on screen in the film bio "Rhapsody in Blue". | |
