"One Hundred Easy Ways" I think of as a comedy song. It's also a very self-deprecating song in that Ruth clearly sees herself as getting in her own way with men as a contrast to her sister Eileen who clearly attracts and knows how to keep men interested in her. Rosalind Russell herself rather dictated the form of the song to Bernstein (and presumably Comden and Green) when she said something along the lines of "I want to sing some melody, then stop, crack a joke, go on singing, joke, etc." which the songwriters then used as a template to follow. It's a funny comic character song, which is also charming in a similar way Joan Rivers or Phyllis Diller used to make fun of themselves in their standup comedy acts.
