| I wonder if "Pet Me Poppa" inspired Andrew Lloyd Webber to write "Cats"! It's an okay number and Vivian is cute, but "Bushel and a Peck" was also a popular Hit Parade song (I think Perry Como and Betty Hutton's version was most popular) and probably the most famous song in the show as far as the general public who hadn't seen the actual Broadway show. "My Time of Day" is also a beauty, though only heard in the film in the orchestra if I recall. It's a difficult song to sing with like minor(?) 9th intervals that Brando most likely couldn't have pulled off, but would have been lovely if they somehow gave it to Sinatra! I agree "A Woman In Love" has a fine melody, and it's played several times probably to try to get a new song on the Hit Parade. I like "Adelaide" as well, which was added to beef up his part and probably to assuage his anger at not playing Sky. |
