I remember eating breakfast while a Bushel a and a peck played on the radio; Or is my memory playing tricks on me?

No, I don't think your memory is playing tricks on you. A BUSHEL AND A PECK was a well-known song. In 1950, a duet of it by Perry Como and Betty Hutton lasted 18 weeks on the Billboard charts, and peaked at #3. Others who recorded it were Doris Day and The Andrews Sisters, among others. My grandmother (who was not a show queen) used to sing it to me in the early 1960s. She likely knew it from radio play.
