| I saw today's matinee and Esparza was in. He was fine and in good voice but there were a couple times he seemed to lack focus and perhaps his tempo dragged. Pajak on the other hand is phenomenal and Cooper is as fine a Nancy as anyone could ever want. I could easily reverse those names and say that Cooper was phenomenal and Pajak is as fine an Oliver as anyone could ever want. Before Disney snaps him up, somebody please write a show for Pajak or we will lose him to Hollywood forever. (All the young chorus in this show is very talented and very good including the Community Youth Ensemble more easily integrated into this than they were in "Into the Woods" I enjoyed the show very much. I wondered though when Bill Sikes slaps Nancy it seemed awkward and there was no sound of contact as there was later when Oliver slaps Sikes. I wonder if this is deliberate to try and temper the brutality before Nancy launces into "As Long As He Needs Me?" |
