When I was in high school in the dark ages, someone suggested that "Strangers in the Night" was a song about cruising (though the word "cruising" wasn't in the teen sixties lexicon, at least not in Northern Virginia.) Of course, it was originally composed (by whom, a gnarly dispute) for the film "A Man Could Get Killed," and initially earmarked to be sung by Melina Mercouri, at least partially dispelling any gay subtext. But the argument persisted.
