I can tell you, I left this production on air, buzzing and relieved at how good it all was... but I definitely renewed by admiration for the book, which is absolutely fantastic - scene for scene, structure, and flow from scene to scene and dialogue to song. Hugh Wheeler did great work on this, with Sondheim, and Prince.
But yes, I wish more people would name the book writers of the musicals... especially a Sondheim musical, which will inevitably be referred to as "a Sondheim musical" or as many even bill them, "Stephen Sondheim's _______". |
