Wow - wish I had done as well on my Tony nomination predictions! This season really seemed to be a season of revivals/shows that were ineligible for the Drama Critics, at least on Broadway. Of the five nominees for the Tony for Best Play, only Leopoldstadt and Fat Ham were eligible here, since the others had played off-Broadway in an earlier season.
Looking at the Tony acting nominees, if we put Ain't No Mo', Between Riverside and Crazy, Kimberly Akimbo, and Cost of Living in the "old show" category, the nominations are really dominated by old shows/revivals. Only 14 of the 40 acting nominees are for a show that is new this season to a New York audience. |
