Yes, the announcement is well-intentioned, but I'd be happier if theaters sought more to showcase Native American playwrights, actors, etc.
It's ironic to me that Larissa FastHorse's ''The Thanksgiving Play'' is the most-produced Native play, but has no roles for Native actors in it.
Possibly that's what's made it easier to produce for many theaters: It doesn't require any Native actors, which is a sad commentary in itself.
And last year, Tracy Letts' ''The Minutes'' pivoted on the whitewashing of our Native American past, but it, too, had no Native actors or roles. |
