What a wonderful artist she was, with a thrilling voice able to encompass the dramatic mezzo repertoire as well as some soprano roles. She also broke through barriers, becoming one of the most prominent international Black opera stars. Here she is singing "O don fatale" as Princess Eboli in Verdi's "Don Carlo", one of her signature roles, and it is a wonder. Rest in peace.
