Nice article, and in all fairness, the interviewer mentions Hugh Wheeler and the actors are responding to the question. In that context, it makes sense that they don't say his name again. But yes, Bergman should have been mentioned somewhere, certainly I would think in terms of Sondheim/Wheeler/Prince capturing the tone so well. I do feel that this production does a great job of playing to the book's strengths, especially in the second act where the emotions are so front and center; I was absolutely delighted with that.
I'm seeing the show for a second time next week; saw the first performance and wanted to go back when things were a bit more settled in. I am looking forward to seeing it again! |
