Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but my impression is that the rise in grosses after nominations is more gradual rather than immediate. People already had their tickets for last week, but they might choose different tickets for two weeks from now based on the nominations.
I think the other thing about this year's nominations is that no play really got that many nominations. None got more than 6. The headlines are about Some Like It Hot with 13 nominations, followed by New York, New York, Shucked, and & Juliet with 9. Some Like It Hot's gross went up about 15%, Shucked about 13% and NY NY about 7% for its highest gross yet. Overall, grosses went down by 6%, so the mild increase for those 3 shows is promising.
& Juliet was already over a million dollars a week and over 95% capacity. |
