I went to a talkback recently for a small regional theater company, and the artistic director said times are really tough because the audience hasn't come back yet and there's very little grant funding. She said she personally is not doing any production with more than 4 cast members next season. The largest theater in the area does 3 musicals and 2 plays a season. The two plays have 4 and 1 cast member next season. In 2019, the 2 plays had 7 and 10 cast members.
