| I wouldn't call the title of ''Corner of the Sky'' nonsensical either; it's metaphorical, and it's about a young man finding his place. Stephen Schwartz wrote: ''Everything has its season Everything has its time Show me a reason and I'll soon show you a rhyme Cats fit on the windowsill Children fit in the snow Why do I feel I don't fit in anywhere I go? Rivers belong where they can ramble Eagles belong where they can fly I've got to be where my spirit can run free Got to find my corner of the sky ...'' In his genial parody,''My Doorway to Where,'' Cinco Paul makes a playful nod to Pippin's metaphors and nature imagery: The ''Schmigadoon!'' character is named Topher, and like Pippin, is trying to figure out where he fits in the world. ''This life is like a puzzle You gotta find that missing piece And the man who does Will find his happiness increase Poets sing of starlight Kittens play with string Why does it seem I'll never find my thing? Squirrels find nuts in the forest Robins fly high in the air What am I supposed to be? Who is this guy called me? When will I see My doorway to where? ...'' |
