A) All artists can make less-than-compelling art, not just "hot downtown creators".
B) Half of the "hot downtown creators" announced today have regularly worked on Broadway, so they're not really that downtown.
C) This is NYTW you're talking about; under Jim Nicola, the last few seasons were full of stars being announced at the time the season launched, and most non-profits are hungry to announce a star as quickly as they can, because they actually do operate in line with capitalist commercial producing tactics. McGregor is making a choice to make her creatives the star of her season (which might be in part a response to the Three Sisters debacle). |
