Are you aware of specific high-profile casting decisions that have been made, and are just not being announced yet? Or is this a more general statement?
In any case, I feel like it makes sense to hold off on those (again, IF there are any at this point to hold off on), at least until after the initial season announcement. Commercial producers are announcing a single show, whereas non-profit companies are announcing a season.
They will want to equally celebrate all of the season's shows in that first announcement, and save more exciting news for later, since it will give them additional reasons for press releases. Just like every other theatre company does, you announce the playwright and director of each show—not because they think they are "exciting downtown artists" (although of course you play up their credits), but because that's a way to announce the same piece of info about each show. |
