To add:
#3 is extremely unlikely to happen because the stakeholders essentially control the admin committee and not (at least) announcing the awards on the 11th will be disastrous, in a business that has already suffered one disaster in this decade.
#1 does not have to be "just a press conference." Previously recorded performance material could be shown. Ads could be added as could animated material (because not covered by the struck contract).
#2 does not seem likely to me. I just don't see WGA granting a waiver because it seems to undermine their position. There is no comparability to past strikes: this is an existential issue for the writers. Also, I think leaving the Tonys with #1 OR #3 makes WGA's point about the centrality of writing better than they could make it any other way.
Regarding the honor etc, first, I think most people would prefer the honor of a paycheck over a statue, and second, they could always present the statues etc post-strike.
But of course I don't know. |
