The WGA and the Dramatist Guild are not the same thing. You can write for Broadway and not be a member of the WGA. You cannot write for television and movies without being in the WGA. This is about trying to get fair wages for writers. Playwrights do not work under the WGA union. My royalites from plays are not hurt by this strike. I just can't write for television, movies, video games and such. No plays are damaged by this strike except they won't have the Tony broadcast to promote them and give them publicity. I totally stand behind the fact that writers, actors and others are not getting their fair share of the profits from streaming. This strike is important because the business has changed so drastically. However, theatre isn't covered by the WGA and never was. The WGA is a union and the DG is a guild. Those are two different things. The only thing missing by not having a Tony broadcast is the publicity that will promote sales. It's a shame, but it's not going to hurt playwrights as much as the writers for tv and movies. They can't make anything. Plays can continue to be done.
