In the Encores script, there are lines that indicate that Nancy is a prostitute. She makes a fairly direct reference to it (although I don't remember how it was worded), and at one later point she says something like she's been working at her job for 15 years. I noted this because the year before we did Camelot in 8th grade, we did Oliver in 7th grade. I mentioned in the Camelot threads that our Drama teacher must have censored "The Lusty Month of May" because we sang it as "The Merry Month of May," and I'm 99.9% sure that Nancy was not a prostitute in our school's version. So finding out from Encores that Nancy was a prostitute was jarring! I'm wondering what else I don't know about the musicals I had THOUGHT that I grew up with!

I don't think the Encores staging was clear about Bet's age. She clearly looks up to Nancy, but I didn't realize she is supposed to be significantly younger.
