My personal experience is that it's not that unusual for there to be no widespread standing ovation for a play at one of the Broadway non-profits, but it's really rare for a commercial production on Broadway. I actually note when there's no standing ovation for a Broadway show in my theater diary because it's so unusual. The last one I have listed for a commercial production I attended on Broadway was for King Charles III in 2016. But I don't think that's because the audience didn't like the show; I think it wasn't as unusual then as it is now for there to be no standing ovation.
Off-Broadway and regional productions don't have standing ovations pretty often in my experience.
For there to be no standing ovation at Grey House is pretty unusual IMO. It could just mean that its audience is more similar to that seen at the non-profits, which is probably the case. Or it could mean the show isn't connecting with audiences. |
