| OLIVER was worth the wait to get started tonight. Just terrific! And I much prefer these more rich and varied William Brohn orchestrations done for the London revival to the bare bones, too simple originals. This sounds so much better. Raul was in, and delicious. Benjamin Pajack is a great Oliver, very much in the spirit of what Dickens wrote, as are Brad Oscar & Mary Testa. I think the young performer who got injured pre-dhow may have been William Thomas Colin (not sure, I was running for my seat, with others, as City Center made announcement) and I hope performer is o.k. City Center kept us outside a half-hour, and should have given us that same time to get in & settled. I hope this production gets remounted, hopefully with more of the libretto...it was really cut down. But each number was sublime. |
