I’ve attended Encores from the very first season and there are only a few presentations that fell flat for me. Otherwise the level of performance has been very high given the short rehearsal period. And I’ve missed two Encores since it began. One because I was sick and another because I had no interest.
Some high points for me have been The Boys from Syracuse, Carnival!, One Touch of Venus, Anyone Can Whistle, Where’s Charley?, The Most Happy Fella, Wonderful Town, Chicago, Promises Promises, Bells Are Ringing, Do Re Mi, Purlie, Tenderloin, Bloomer Girl, Grand Hotel, Juno, Sweet Adeline, Pal Joey, Can Can, Fanny, Out of This World, Babes in Arms, Paint Your Wagon, Little Me, Dear World, Into the Woods, the first Fiorello!, Kismet, Follies, Hair, Bye Bye Birdie, St. Louis Woman, The Golden Apple, The Apple Tree, Big River, Pipe Dream.
Some disappointments have been Irma La Douce, No Strings, The Life, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, 70 Girls 70, Golden Boy.
And special presentations of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Sunday in the Park with George, Brigadoon, Little Shop of Horrors, Evita have all been special. |
