| I have to agree. Season two's songs, for me, were mostly 3rd rate knock offs of the songs they're referencing - and i think several of them, in their attempt to sound like the original but not copy, had little identity of their own as a song or musical number and were not great and confusing. Not all, but some for sure. There were a few really strong ones that stood on their own, but over all I was a lot less taken with the songs than in season 1 where they seemed to live in the same world as the shows/songs they were taking from, but had their own life and identity. To be fair, the kind of music and song ideas of the golden age are probably much easier to recreate and imitate than the 60s and especially 70s musical theater composers. |
