| Jodie Comer played opposite Adam Driver, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in the new Ridley Scott movie a year ago; she has 2 new movies she’s filming, one with Benedict Cumberbatch, one with Tom Hardy and Michael Shannon; and she’s the star of a new HBO television series from A24 and the team behind Succession. It’s possible she wanted to do it and literally doesn’t have time; it’s possible after doing it for most of the past year in London and New York she didn’t feel like there was anything she could add to it; it’s possible since the London production was shot for National Theatre Live (and is already streaming on their site overseas, as I’m sure it will here once the Broadway run closes) she essentially feels she’s already ‘filmed’ it. And of course it’s possible the creative minds involved, give her scheduling conflicts, wanted to see what someone else could bring to it after being so closely associated with only one performer. Most likely it’s a combination of all the above. But it certainly isn’t a reflection on their faith in Comer, let alone a referendum on her “Q score”. Cynthia Erivo has a Tony, Comer has an Emmy, and both have very busy and strong careers. |
