| Well sure, I even acknowledge that it was in the works before Erivo was in it, but people were surprised by it because most people would never have known or read that there was a movie of the musical in the works. And I think the musical came mainly into popularity from the revival, and Cynthia is very much associated with it (in a way that La Chanze, who won a Tony for originating the role, is not)... so I think when the recent star of the hit revival, who won a Tony for the role, and whose star has been rising steadily since her Tony win for it, into many big film and TV roles, 2 oscar noms, grammies, Emmy, etc... was not cast in the movie version... it was a surprise to many. |
