You're right that they've now got 4.5 hours of time to fill without adding any new written material. Maybe there will be an unexpected silver lining and the Tonys will run complete, uncut numbers from the nominated shows. I think the current limit is something like 4 minutes.

The incredible number from Dreamgirls from the 1982 Tonys was over 8 minutes long. The impact from a 4-minute version would have been so much less.

Or maybe they'll even allow shows to perform more than one number? Or have decent-sized scenes from the nominated plays so the audience can understand what the play is actually about? A boy can dream...
