Predicting Tony nominations in July as a game on this board doesn't seem nearly as silly as this Variety article, because the pool of potential nominees is much smaller and many of the potential nominees have already been seen off-Broadway, in London, or in an out-of-town tryout. A year ago, I think people would have predicted that Kimberly Akimbo and Some Like It Hot would be nominated for Best Musical, and Victoria Clark and Jodie Comer would be strong candidates for Lead Actress. Picking actual winners in July, though, is quite a bit sillier, since so much of that is about what the buzz is in the spring as well as who the other nominees are.
Picking nominees and especially winners for Oscars for a year from now when a lot of the selected movies aren't finished, though, is kind of idiotic. All five of the Original Song nominees have a title of "To be announced." Fine as a parlor game, but IMO, this is not an article that should have made it into a professional publication.
