Counterpoint: too many cooks in the kitchen.
I think the musical really suffers from the sense that it's put together by committee. The second act is particularly disjointed. That was less apparent in the revival but still an issue. Of course, this is an adaptation of a movie that is an adaptation of a book, so even more of a problem to overcome. This is the problem with a lot of screen to stage transfers that end up being vignettes from the movie version. Like when I saw Young Frankenstein and the couple beside me kept turning to each other to announce the upcoming joke. "Ovaltine!" |
