| Chandos will be releasing a complete (or so it is being said) recording of Oklahoma! September 15 seems to be the release date. John Wilson conducts. Sierra Boggess will be Laurey. I'm not finding other cast info. A complete Carousel is supposed to follow. |

| I wonder if it will be a complete ORIGINAL Carousel, instead of another recording with "new orchestrations"? | |

| I hope the OKLAHOMA! recording will include the music for the Dream Ballet, and a bonus track of the cut song "boys and Girls like you and Me . And Carousel has Patrick Wilson or Julian Ovendon, at least a singer who can sing as well as act the part of Billy. | |

| and a bonus track of the cut song "boys and Girls like you and Me Do the charts to the Away We Go version exist? If not, there's honestly not much reason for another recording of it - it can certainly be found elsewhere. It's not like it's an unknown song. For a "complete" recording I would expect not just the dream ballet, but all the dance music in the show (and there is plenty of it). I'd just like a "Lonely Room" that isn't rushed, AND where you can really hear the harp playing the 16th notes all the way through the refrain. Thank you. :-) |

| 'Boys and Girls': How did it get from 'Oklahoma!' to 'St. Louis'? | |

| I've read that ''Boys and Girls Like You and Me'' was cut from ''Oklahoma!'' during the show's Boston tryout. (Or was it then ''Away We Go!''?) Anyway, ''Boys and Girls Like You and Me'' was recorded by Judy Garland and cut from the 1944 movie musical ''Meet Me in St. Louis.'' How did Rodgers & Hammerstein's cutout get into the MGM classic best-known for its songs by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane? Below is a recording of Garland's rendition of ''Boys and Girls,'' however, Wikipedia says the cut film footage has been lost. |

| It's not 100-percent certain, but it seems likely that "Boys and Girls Like You and Me" was cut either during the New Haven run or after the last New Haven performance and so it may not have been heard in Boston. In those days, sheet music was published before musicals even opened out of town. "Boys and Girls Like You and Me" was among the songs published. So MGM may have simply found it via the sheet music and bought the song for the movie. MGM owned the film rights to Green Grow the Lilacs, and although MGM didn't make the film version of Oklahoma!, it may be that the studio had first dibs and was looking into buying the film rights, even though Columbia actually invested in Oklahoma! and MGM did not. Of course, Columbia also didn't make the film version. Neither Tim Carter's book nor Max Wilk's book on Oklahoma! offers an explanation of how "Boys and Girls Like You and Me" almost came to be in Meet Me in St. Louis. |

| I think Hugh Fordin's book on the Freed Unit at M-G-M says something about why "Boys and Girls" was not used in "Meet Me in St. Louis." | |

| Thanks, Alan. ... Plus, Frank Sinatra sang ''Boys and Girls'' in ''Take Me Out to the Ball Game'' (1949), but it got cut out of that MGM movie, too. It finally made its Broadway debut in the 1996 ''State Fair,'' and it was one of the 4 R&H songs in the show ruled Tony-eligible for Best Score. And some productions of ''Cinderella'' have incorporated this tune. This ''Boys and Girls Like You and Me'' really does ''go on and on.'' |

| According to Hugh Fordin's history of MGM's Freed Unit, Arthur Freed had offered Hammerstein the job of Producer at MGM in the period where his shows were less than successful, so perhaps it was because of that connection. | |

| Oklahoma! will definitely have the ballet. I believe it is to be on two discs, and the point is for it to be, at last, a complete recording of the score. I do wonder a bit whether it will include the sometimes omitted entr'acte. Obviously, it should if it is to be considered complete. I doubt it will include "Boys and Girls Like You and Me." |

| I didn't include a YouTube link because I didn't know if it was allowed, but there's a complete production of Oklahoma by the North Carolina school of the arts that use uses the original blocking and choreography. It's really fascinating to see how the original dance music works with Agnes DeMille's choreography. | |

| As that is from a telecast in North Carolina — where, unfortunately, sound and image went out of synch at a certain point — the link can be posted. Also on youtube is the telecast of a BBC concert of Oklahoma! conducted by Wilson, but with Scarlett Strallen rather than Boggess as Laurey. I don't know if any members of the BBC cast will be on the recording. |
