Replacing designers is rare because of the enormous costs involved but three instances that come to mind (all happened in out of town tryouts):
David Merrick famously fired renowned set designer Jo Mielziner and replaced him with Robin Wagner on SUGAR.
Tony Walton replaced Adrianne Lobel on MY ONE AND ONLY when Tommy Tune replaced Peter Sellars as the director.
William Ivey Long replaced Catherine Zuber on SEUSSICAL. |
