| There is an odd thing we all do - part of the human condition I guess - that when a star dies we spend all sorts of time commenting on their passing and their life, when often we don't comment enough about them while they are still alive. As if there's really nothing much to say about them until they have gone. This is not a criticism, just an observation. But then, when someone hugely famous/influential/important does pass, somehow we're all expected to comment publicly. And often we do - but given the nature of the internet, let alone our many real life interactions (meaning immediate family we actually see, friends, coworkers, etc) we also have many choices on where and how to comment. We also know how difficult it can be to come up with condolence remarks for a friend, close family, etc, trying to make it sound personal and heartfelt without being cliche and trite - it can be even harder making such remarks about someone in the public realm. Not everyone feels they can come up with a comment that doesn't just sound like they're joining the bandwagon, and not everyone is comfortable making the same comment across different places on the web (which can feel "boilerplate"). I guess what I'm really trying to say is that even for what seems like such a little thing, some of us can feel a lot of pressure to post something "just right" in this kind of circumstance, and sometimes then the choice becomes simply not to post. Now, take that or leave it - but then, to be excoriated for not posting? Sorry - I'm not buying that. Albeit commenting in tribute being a sign of respect, there also must be a respect for the ways each of us chooses to post - or not post - on such a moment. I never saw Turner live, never met her. Like many of us, she was an incredible musical influence. She had a very difficult life, and her artistry both reflected that and surpassed it in amazing ways. Her music and her legacy will certainly live on. I say that in all sincerity, but with a slight degree of feeling like I've been shamed into posting it. That shouldn't be true. Ever. |

| I wasn't expecting people to cry or say how upsetting it was. I just expected a conversation and there was none until I called it out. It sounds like some people were insulted that I called it out and those people threw it back at me which is fair, I guess. But it's bizarre that me calling out this board is a more popular conversation topic than the death of Tina Turner. I'm depressed right now (not about this) so I'm not totally in my right mind but I think I'm going to step away from posting on the board. I'll check for news but won't depend on it for conversation. Datalounge discusses everything so that feels like a better spot for me. And in general, I need to work on understanding before trying to be understood. That starts now. | |

| I’m really wishing you well. I have been there too and my therapy that I started a couple of months back has made a massive difference to me. This often isn’t the kindest place to be on the internet yet I come back. Like a dog retuning to its sick to sniff because it can’t help itself. Having said that I have also met some of my favorite people in the world here and became real life friends. This is all an aside, take care. | |

| If I personally know someone who died, I will reach out to their family (I've had three this week, so I've been busy). If it's a famous person I have admiration for, no matter how wonderful they were in their work, I've gotten so that I don't always feel the need to post a message on a message board to say that it's tragic. But it is, and I feel it - and I have felt Tina Turner's passing well. I just didn't feel there was any reason to tell everyone. |

| Yesterday, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman were getting their portraits presented at Sardi's, but they also took time to salute Tina Turner. In 1985, Shaiman did the vocal arrangements for ''Leader of the Pack,'' a Tony-nominated revue of Ellie Greenwich's songs. And one of them was the Turner classic ''River Deep, Mountain High.'' Yesterday, Shaiman brought up Darlene Love and Annie Golden, who starred in that show, to reprise it. Wittman adds that that iconic tune was an inspiration for their ''You Can't Stop the Beat'' in ''Hairspray.'' |

| I talked about her with friends in person or by phone all day long. I felt no need to post to the folks on this or any board. People show respect and admiration in a myriad of ways. | |

| I appreciate when you (or someone) posts about deaths in case some have not yet heard, but I'd hope that you could appreciate that it is not everyone's impulse to post a personal expression here (or anywhere) and that many here read and post in various places and should not be obliged to post their thoughts everywhere on every significant death. I first saw her live (with Ike) when I was about 10 and that Proud Mary will stay with me forever. | |

| As was said, we just had a Broadway musical about her. Also- it frustrated me because no one responded to the news of Todd Haimes' death either and he gave most of his life to the theatre! | |

| Well, maybe you should stop policing people's responses. It is not a reflection on "this place" or individual posters if number of responses does not rise to your desired standard. Not all of us buy into the 'posts or it didn't happen' mentality of needing to prove one's social engagement... or one's grief. | |

| There were zero responses 8 hours after it was announced that she had died. I expected at least one. It's comforting to discuss topics with a message board. It was bizarre to me that no one wanted to talk about Tina. You seem to be overreacting to my posts though. Tone of voice is so hard to distinguish online. | |

| I am not sure why you refuse to acknowledge the notion that not everyone feels the need to "respond" on ATC to death announcements. There is, however, irony in what you say here. On the one hand you are "frustrated" (really?) by the lack of response for someone who "gave most of their life to the theatre" and yet you are seemingly equally frustrated at the lack of response for someone who wonderfully gave most of their life to something other than the theatre, and hardly any of it to the subject of this board. | |

| She did have a hit Broadway musical that told her life story and her songs. Rest in peace, Ms. Turner. A great performer, and from interviews I saw, she seemed like a lovely person too who endured, overcame and triumphed. |
