Ed Ames did a lot of theatre during his long career, including appearances in two Broadway shows, Carnival! and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. He was also quite memorable in the Richard Rodgers TV musical Androcles and the Lion. His vocals on its soundtrack recording are outstanding.
Very sorry to hear this news. I always enjoyed listening to his deep, sonorous baritone. And on a lighter level, who can forget his unforgettable tomahawk throw on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show? May he rest in peace.
