| I remember seeing a rebroadcast of Playhouse 90's production of DOWAR starring Piper Laurie and Cliff Robertson, directed by John Frankenheimer. It's excellent, the performances are award-worthy, very moving. I read Piper Laurie's memoir and, considering the subject matter, she would take Benzedrine for the final acts of the plays she appeared in and subsequently, weened herself off of the drug. I'm not sure if she was using it when this was filmed. She also became lovers with Frankenheimer, who I believe directed the movie. Nonetheless, if you have any interest or want to contrast and compare, look no further, you won't be disappointed. |
