| Protocol when there are multiple understudies |

| Does anyone know if there's a standard procedure regarding which understudies get to go on and when? I recently attended a performance where two characters (mother and son, as it happened) were each played by the second understudy listed in the program rather than the first. It doesn't seem likely that the understudies "take turns" going on, but perhaps that's it. |
